There are 18 special needs students enrolled in my class, and all with different disabilities. The disabilities range from Autism to Specific Learning Disability (SLD). My day consist of teaching Social Studies, Language Arts, Science, and Physical Education. My responsibilities are helping students with reading and writing goals, comprehension skills, creating and following IEP goals, develop daily lesson plans, attending educational and parent conferences, and maintaining student behaviors. There are two classroom aids that work under my supervision. Imperial County of Education El Centro, CA Special Education Teacher July 2006-June 2007 I was a junior high teacher for Moderate to Severe students. Each student was diagnosed with a different disability: such as, Autism, Down Syndrome, Mild Mental Retardation, Severely Retardation, and Hard of Hearing. The classroom was designed to control student’s behaviors, so they could be placed back into a community school system. My responsibilities were writing and maintaining student’s IEP goals, classroom lesson plans, attending parent conferences, and behavior management. I was in charge of five instructional aids that work under my supervision. Harvest Yuma, Arizona Special Education Assistant Director/Teacher November 2004- May 2006 I traveled in and out of the general education classrooms (K-11th grades) to assist teachers and special needs students. My duties were to make sure the students meet their IEP goals, assisted with writing IEP goals, participated in IEP meetings, conducted conferences with parents, created academic reports on student progress, and helped with special education presentations for parents and teachers.
