Working as an English teacher has been a fulfilling and enriching experience. The moments lived in the classroom with both adults and children are irreplaceable, and I have made good friends for life. Both the positive results of students and their positive feedback on my approach to teaching have been encouraging.
Since transitioning to an online teacher, I have incorporated new technologies and communicative tools into the virtual classroom. I have become very familiar and comfortable with hundreds of free web resources, such as web-based meeting rooms, videos, listening and writing activities, and I regularly integrate trends and current events into my classes. My individual style encourages students to speak comfortably on topics that are both interesting and relevant. I have found that with this approach, students pay less attention to their errors which in turn allows them to overcome different barriers of learning a second language, such as the fear of speaking. Most importantly, my style allows me to meet students’ individual learning needs.
My professional experience as an online teacher also gave me the opportunity to work as a Spanish teacher for a young company, which has been mentioned by the Skype team. In this job, I’ve been directly involved in the development of a web based curriculum that integrates audiovisual tools in the learning of the language. For this project, we have developed collaborative work through regular virtual meetings and tasks. This work gives me the opportunity of combining two primary interests: teaching and technology.
