About me

About me I'm an experienced, qualified English teacher. Originally from London, I now live in Athens, Greece. My background is largely in media finance and business management . I love travelling and experiencing different cultures and countries. And, as an adult learner of a foreign language I know and understand just how hard and frustrating it can sometimes be which helps me easily relate to the problems and needs of my clients. Plus. I love the English Language with all its ups and downs and very much enjoy sharing that enthusiasm with my clients. Qualifications & Experience I qualified as an English teacher with a Cambridge CELTA here in Athens two and a half years ago. I have a BA in Philosophy and a Certificate in the Social Sciences. I am experienced in teaching one-on-ones and small groups both here in Athens and online. I specialise in teaching Business English, conversational English, Interview and Exam preparation and English for Specific purposes. Teaching Approach I use the Communicative approach to teaching. I don’t believe in cramming my students heads full of grammar and rules, after all, that’s not how we learnt our native language so why should it be the best way to learn a new one? My style is based on 3 main principles: * Learning should be as enjoyable as it is rewarding. Laughter is good *Have the confidence to make mistakes. Mistakes are crucial to learning *Lessons must inspire us. They should be relevant to us, to our interests and to our reasons for learning. Every language learner is unique and their reasons for wanting to improve their language skills are unique, so, I tailor every session to those unique needs and requirements and the personality of each student. I encourage input and a joint approach to developing goals. But, at the end of the day, if you're not enjoying you're not learning effectively.
