About me

This is a book discussion group for students in grades 4-8. • Students will meet with me and other students through video chat. • They will be assigned about five chapters of the book The Giver (Lowry, 1994) at a time, and will be given assignments to prepare for upcoming discussions. • Students will get the opportunity to share their mini projects using the virtual whiteboard, webcam, or other files(pdfs, Word, etc). • Comprehension skills and strategies will be a part of the course • The course is designed for students who are on grade level and can read a novel on the fifth-sixth grade level • This course is not a tutorial. • The course is designed for students who parents and teachers agree that they will benefit from the enrichment in literacy and writing • Students who sign up for the course must really, really, really love to read. Students will have the opportunity usually not offered in a traditional classroom to respond to literature in a creative way with a teacher acting as facilitator. Students will also be given the opportunity to improve reading, speaking, listening, and writing skills. Finally, they will have the experience of becoming better communicators in a virtual world using technology
