Tutoring inspired me to teach in the first place and I hope to do the same for my own students. I take personal pride in seeing them achieve their results. Furthermore, I love the fulfilment that I can receive. Knowing that a student can succeed in or at the least enjoy English, no matter their capabilities or backgrounds, is paramount to me and I will try my best in order to ensure this. The rewarDuring tutoring, I had experience of teaching students aged 14-22, with all capabilities, from secondary school to degree level. I often received pupils that struggled in their subjects. They found English boring and irrelevant, and thus, their results suffered. By illustrating that the themes found in literature could be applicable to their own lives, they began to realise it's importance. By showing them modern film and theatrical adaptations of texts, I aimed to illustrate that there are many ways in which to express a story, challenging their understanding. Over time, they began to enjoy their study of English and to grasp why it is such an important subject for learning. Importantly, I aimed to convince them that literature is more than a story, it is a means by which to communicate ideals, morals and concepts.
