Finance, Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Tax
I have been a personal tutor for 5 years, since I was in the first year in University. I covered Basic Math, Physics for High School Students. Each year I had 3-4 students, 2 of them, I have been teaching for 4 years. Witnessing children grew up, went through puberty, hard to follow our instruction, becoming more mature is the most memorable experience I have ever had. 3 students of mine passed National University Entrance Examination, and being admitted by their dream University. 2 students of mine pass the high school entrance exam, studying in renown High Schools.
In my last year in University, I had a part time job as Economics and Financial Statement Analysis tutor for an education centre which provide training courses for CFA ( Chartered Financial Analyst) and CPA ( Certified Public Accountant). That was the first time I have had the chance to give lecture in front of a 50- student class.
When I studied in Stirling, I had helped my friends with their studying in Financial Reporting, Quantitative Methods in Business and Finance, Corporate Finance, Economics for Business. Since many of my class mates switched from others majors to Finance, so they lacked of background in Finance and Accounting and found it difficult to understand our lectures as well as our problems solving classes or even what tutor explain in computer laboratories or seminars. Besides, they had part time job, and do not have much time to study. So, when the final examinations came, they felt depressed. I decided to help them. Within 3 weeks, I went over all the lectures, seminars, past year papers for them. My methodology is not using too much academic words like our lecturer but find simple examples with number in detail, or draw mind maps, graph. After they had fully understood the new concept, I gave them the correct definition in the book. Now remembering this definition is not too hard as they know the meaning of every complex and academic word in that.
Taking lecturer as my lifetime career-to-be, I have pushed the best effort to self-learn towards professional qualifications, starting with CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) program in which I am currently a level 3 candidate, to prepare fundamental knowledge which could assist me in the earlier years of working in the field of finance. After working for years, I am planning to further my education with PhD to be qualified lecturer in a University. I am very excited to begin my career, yet I know that I must be patient and starting with my favorite job – Tutor first in order to achieve the lofty goals that I have set for myself.
Experience: 5 years
Frankly, the first thing I would like to say is that I have passion in teaching with years of experience for students aging from 12 to 30. Second, I have enough qualification even to be a high education lecture in some countries, my homeland – Vietnam is an example. I have passed CFA level 1 and 2 in 6 months. This June I will take CFA level 3 – the final level of this well known, internationally recognized certificate in Finance. The important thing is that I learned all the curriculum for this examination in a famous education training center and what I have gained not just how to pass the examination in the shortest time with high score but the teaching methodology of more than 10 lectures who are professional people holding important roles in many big financial institutions. Their approaches are quite different from the academic way of lecturers in my University, they tended to start new thing with a matter in real life, giving practical, insightful examples instead of giving us just definition and repeated exercises. They communicated with students, taking their name as example so that we can remember that examples more easily. These things are worth investing money. And I do want to teach others from what I have learned.
I have been studying both IFRS ( International Financial Reporting Standards) and US GAAP ( Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) accounting standards. Other accounting standards are quite similar to these two ones. Therefore, I am confidence that I can be an accounting tutor for US students, European, Chinese, Japanese, Canadian students. I have taken Principles of Accounting, Financial Accounting, and Managerial Accounting during 4 years in Bachelor Degree, all of that I got above 90% each. In the first semester in my Master course, I studied Financial Reporting, covering conceptual framework, accounting standards, achieving 1A – the highest score for this module. My strategy to learn this subject is reading the guideline of accounting standards, point out the procedure to recognize transactions, applying in practical examples with detailed number in a simple form, generalizing the impacts of different accounting methods through the examples. Then in the testing room, we can recall all the theory by rewrite the short example in the scrap paper, do some simple calculations under different accounting methods required in the test, drawing the conclusion and generalizing them in the answer book.
