In addition to teaching English, In 2011, I moved to the High School where I was given the responsibility of attempting to get the lower achieving students up to an acceptable level of English writing proficiency.

2006 – 2009 Singapore PSB School

I taught Secondary 2, 3 and 4 IGCSE First Language English and IGCSE English Literature, IGCSE English as a Second Language, and I was also in charge of teaching Literacy for Secondary 1 and 2.

2004 – 2006 Jakarta International Korean School

We taught a range of topics including Indonesian and Korean history, ancient Greek and Roman history, American history and famous people, and environmental issues.

2002 – 2004 EF English First Jakarta

I started as a Director of Studies for EF English First in 2002. As DOS of EF English First Pluit I was in overall charge of the development of materials outside the remit of EF Education. I set up teacher training and observation programmes including peer observations. Teacher training consisted of an induction course for new teachers, running weekly workshops which included introducing teachers to different teaching methodologies, different techniques for teaching grammar, vocabulary, speaking etc, introducing various strategies for teaching listening and improving students reading and writing skills and intensive training for the correct delivery of TOEFL and IELTS courses.

1998 – 2002 Freelance Work Milan

From 1998 - 2002, I worked in Italy where, for the first year, I worked as a Director of Studies for a small school in Milan.

During my second year in Italy I spent my time freelance teaching for companies as diverse as Versace, Heinz, Corriera della Sera, Il Sole 24 Ore, San Pelligrino, Aventis, Beyer and Pharmacia and Upjohn, all of which were large national or multinational companies. I also had my first opportunity to teach elementary and high school children at Collegio San Carlo, one of the foremost private schools in Italy. This gave me the chance to teach in a traditional school environment with larger class sizes than I had experienced before.

My third year in Italy I started material writing. This started because Oxford House, a private language centre with schools throughout Italy, wanted to start running online English courses, using and needed a course to run in tandem based on the communicative approach, which would allow students to practise orally what they had learned online.

During my time in Italy I also prepared students to take the Cambridge KET and PET exams for students at Collegio San Carlo and FCE, CAE and CPE for in-company and private students. I also prepared students from Bocconi University and private students for the TOEFL and IELTS exams.
