My name is Rebekah. I am originally from Kent, a county in South East England known as “The Garden of England”. I am a native English speaker, with a British accent. I'm currently learning a language myself and understand the problems that you may encounter when trying to learn a new language.
I am a friendly, hard-working, highly-motivated individual with a flexible attitude. I'm also an accomplished professional from a business background with over ten years' experience of working within a corporate environment. I have excellent communication and presentation skills, and the ability to encourage and motivate others. I'm able to guide and accompany learners through the language learning process, to ensure steady progress.
I thrive in dynamic environments and love nothing more than a new challenge, utilising my skills to make a significant contribution.
Until recently, I was based in Xi'an, China and employed by EF English First, one of the largest private English language schools in the world. I taught a diverse range of students from Very Young Learners to corporate classes, the majority of students were 3-14 year olds. In addition to teaching young learners, I also taught adult courses catered towards older teenagers and adults, and aligned with the Common European Framework (CEF) for language learning.
Due to personal reasons, I decided to return to my hometown of Rochester in Kent (a historic town, famous for being a favourite of Charles Dickens who lived in the area for many years). I'm currently teaching English online – it's a very exciting experience and I'm enjoying the flexibility and being able to interact with students from all over the globe.
I have a TEFL Org UK Certificate, as well as a Teaching English Online Certificate. I have experience of teaching English as a Foreign Language - including general English, conversational English and Young Learners.
I am a very active person and enjoy many outdoor pursuits, including mountaineering, cycling and running. I enjoy music, cooking, and also have a keen interest in art. I have travelled to many countries in Europe and enjoy its variety of culture.
To be a successful teacher, you must demonstrate a positive attitude, offer feedback to motivate students, and encourage them to participate. Most important of all, a good teacher is patient and understanding. Last, but not least, classes should be informative as well as fun!
“The mediocre teacher tells.
The good teacher explains.
The superior teacher demonstrates.
The great teacher inspires.”
- William Arthur Ward
I am passionate about teaching and dedicated to providing opportunities for students to learn English in an interactive setting - by conducting one-to-one and small-group sessions, providing stimulating and informative lessons via Skype and screen-sharing. I am able to design customised teaching materials and upload lesson content to Google Drive (a shareable cloud storage site) following the lesson, as well as sending students a follow-up email with a link to the lesson and a reminder of any homework.
I am flexible and available to teach Mon - Sun 8am GMT - 11pm GMT.
I'm looking for new students learning English. My lessons use Skype (video/audio).
A variety of course options are available, in addition to specifically-designed lessons covering different aspects of grammar, vocabulary, functions, pronunciation and phonetics, as well as skills-based lessons (reading, writing, listening, speaking).
I also offer a free 20-minute demo lesson. These demos are a chance for me to assess the student level, to schedule a syllabus, and for the student to get an idea of what my lessons look like.
