About me

About me

My name is Ayana West and I am a professional English tutor/instructor and a world traveler! Language and travel are two my biggest passions and so the career I have chosen works perfectly for me as well as my students because with my teaching comes a well-rounded background of cultural awareness and an in-depth understanding of language, not only from textbooks, but from real life.

So far I have traveled to over 18 countries and have lived abroad teaching English for two years in Taiwan, R.O.C. While living in Taiwan, I worked in crams schools teaching both children and adults and also started my own personal tutoring company where I acquired more than 10 students of my own; teaching them in their own homes and cafes. Most of my students came from referrals from my own students who enjoyed my instruction so much that they shared me with their friends!

My most recent teaching venture, involved working with a formal, online tutoring company and in that company over the term of a year, I received and 9.5/10 rating from the hundred of classes that I taught. Because of my popularity as a tutor with my company, I was quickly promoted to a demonstration consultant as a representative of the company to prospective students considering signing up with my company. Soon after this, I was also asked to begin writing materials for my company to be used in all of the classrooms, including those of other teachers.

With all of my experiences and background, I feel more than prepared to offer a professional, effective learning plan for any students who are interested in my services.

Teaching Approach

My teaching approach is heavily based on teaching language skills along with their immediate application in real-life situations in order to ensure the brain recognized that the language learned is useful, and therefore, stores the information more effectively than if the language skills were learning without immediate application.

All of my lessons are conducted completely in English and the materials that can be provided are over varying topics, and all of which focus on learning specific language skills or grammar rules. For instance, if a topic of a lesson is about taking risks, the lesson might introduce grammar structures that relate to discussing risks. Can you think of any grammar structures that might be used in this lesson?

Besides the more technical aspects of the lessons, I aim to create a warm, comfortable atmosphere for all of my students so that they feel confident enough to use whatever English skills they know already. I love to discuss things about life, existence and happiness with my students and this tend to leave both my students and myself feeling more fulfilled and happy after each class.

If you have any questions about me, my classes, or materials, please feel free to contact me!
