I have worked as a Teaching Assistant for Microbiology and Biochemistry laboratory courses during my 1st year at IIT Bombay, India. Here, I was a part of the team which designed experiments, explained the theory behind each experiment, demonstrated the experiments and taught the students to analyze the results.
My PhD work involved research in Biochemistry and Microbiology, of which I have an extensive knowledge. During my PhD tenure, I have mentored three Masters' students for their dissertation projects. This involved an intensive one-to-one teaching with the students not just for demonstrating various techniques or instrument operation, but interpretation of data, analysis of results and writing project reports.
The mentoring helped a lot to hone my teaching skills. I was also involved in Techconnect- a part of Techfest 2011 and Science Expo, 2011 where our team designed posters, and demonstrated bacterial metabolism of aromatics to college and school students, respectively. This induced in me a strong enthusiasm to connect with students in the area of Biology.
My experience in teaching at both-classroom and laboratories will communicate the subject of Biology using a practical way of thinking. Given an opportunity to teach Biology,I would strive to the best of my abilities to stimulate a strong enthusiasm and curiosity in the area of Biology among students.
