THE GAS LAWS
(a)Avogadro's Law:The volume(v) of a gas depends not only upon the quantity of the gas(n) but also on its pressure(p) and its temperature(T).
It is common knowledge that at any given temperature and pressure, the volume of a gas will be directly proportional to the quantity. That is
v=kn when p and T are constant
The quantity n is usually expressed in gm-moles. So that if w gms of the gas of molecular weight M be takesthen
Avogadro was responsible for discovering a law of narture for the gases commonly called Avogadro law which states
"measured at any common temperature and pressure, the volume of the same number of gram-moles of different gases, would be same"
In other words, equal volume of all gases, under similar conditions of tempure and pressure, contain the same number of molecules.
