After a corporate career in finance and administration in Australia with companies such as the Commercial Bank of Australia, Caltex Oil Credit Union and the Attorney General’s Department, I successfully established a freelance consultancy in Community Education. During that time, I authored and presented a financial literacy programme called, An Angel In My Purse. In 2003, I took my interest in community education one step further by establishing The Sage which began as a small bookshop specialising in personal and professional development books. In a small rural town, surrounded by Buddhist Monasteries, The Quest For Life Centre and a Health Resort, I found the perfect complement for those visiting the town and pursuing their spiritual journey. Soon I had expanded the store and was running The Sage Bookshop & Cafe, offering volunteer opportunities to local youth interested in gaining experience in retail and hospitality.
In 2009, I returned to university and took up my interest in communications and cultural studies and I then evolved An Angel In My Purse into a self-sustainable fund, supporting a micro-finance scheme. In 2012, I returned to my native UK and worked with business start-ups under the aegis of the New Enterprise Allowance scheme in Hampshire. I now operate a mindfulness-based consultancy in executive training and education in Devon and internationally. My personal education continues as I pursue a professional Masters.
Some of my qualifications include:
- Post Graduate Certificate Mindfulness Studies
- BA in Communications and Cultural Studies featuring global citizenship
- Certific ate III Education & Training
- Business Accounting
- English as a Second Language
I have more than thirty years’ personal experience studying the esoteric wisdom of indigenous cultures and eastern philosophy, practicing meditation and applying mindfulness to my life. As a result, I have discovered the well-spring of peace that lies within all of us and I continue the journey of balancing soul and material satisfaction.
As a tutor, I take a mindfulness-based approach to educating and mentoring. Mindfulness enhances focus and concentration, as well as building emotional resilience. Very often when learning a new subject, the biggest barrier to learning is confidence. Mindfulness can assist us in transcending this barrier, creating a warm, safe yet disciplined structure for learning.
I am a member of the Association for Cultural Studies, the Mindfulness Association UK and SIETAR (Society for Intercultural Education, Training And Research).
