Students will be categorized from according to their proficiency or level in English. The levels are the low beginning, high beginning, low intermediate, high intermediate and advanced. Leveling of students is very important so the student can follow the lessons prepared and get the improvement being expected.
For the students in the beginning level I slow down my speech, I use shorter sentences, present tense of words synonyms, examples, gestures, demonstrations and visual aids to convey the ideas. When asking questions I give the student enough time to process the questions. I avoid expressions or sayings that are only common for the students in the high level.
For the intermediate level, normally for senior high schools, college students, and advanced learners. I prepare different topics for discussion, these are short topics so we can finish in a duration of one session, this is more of a free talk. I encourage the student to speak more I let the student feel relaxed guide him or her to bring out his or her ideas. At the end of each class, I do recap for the concept checking to make sure that the student can really follow the lesson. I also give new and simple vocabulary and use those words in a very simple sentence for them to remember.
