To me Holistic Education is a methodology which focuses on preparing students to meet any challenges they may face in life and in their academic career. This approach deals with educating and learning about oneself, developing health relationships and positive social behaviors, social and emotional development, resilience, and the ability to view beauty, experience transcendence, and truth.
Holistic education nurtures the broad development of the students and focuses on their intellectual, emotional, social, physical, creative or intuitive, aesthetic and spiritual potentials. It promotes the importance of relationships at all levels within a learning community in which the educator and student work together in an open and collaborative relationship. There is an emphasis on life experience and learning beyond the confines of the classroom and the formal educational environment towards education as growth, discovery and a broadening of horizons. It encourages a desire to elicit meaning and understanding and to engage with the world. The approach empowers learners to examine critically the cultural, moral and political contexts of their lives. It leads learners towards actively challenging and changing cultural values to meet human needs.
Being an educator our teaching should be focused on developing habits of discipline, attention, obedience to teachers, and perfect execution, among others. We believe that “children should be seen and not heard, and most educators adhered to the view children are empty vessels to be filled with knowledge by their teachers and its their duty to do it. Provide opportunities for all students to learn from other students who are different. Also provide opportunities for all students to develop cross-cultural competence and prepare students for the real world.
