Teaching and interacting with students are for me one of the most rewarding experiences of my career in academia. Teaching allows me to have an immediate impact on society by shaping the minds of younger generations. I really value and enjoy the opportunities it offers to interact with students, get to know them and help them achieve their dreams and ultimately contribute to improving their lives.
Whenever I introduce a new material, I make sure to put it in a certain context. Relating the material to things students already know about works as an ice-breaker and smooth down the transition to the new topic. Whenever it is possible, I would like to start by describing the types of problems to be solved, using examples familiar to the students. The motivational and learning benefits of providing context and establishing relevance, embed information and skills in the students’ long-term memories.
